| Official Club Name: The Friendship Force of Belém Closest Major Airport: Belém International Airport (12 km from downtown) Cost of Transportation between the airport and our city: The hosts always meet the ambassadors at the airport The maximum number of Ambassadors our club can host: 20 About the Club: Our club was chartered in 1992, but only in 1996 started to do exchanges. Now we have approximately 45 members, made up of couples and single people (ages 28 to 65). Some of our most recent outbound exchanges include South Flanders, Belgium; Devon, England; Auckland, New Zealand and Newcastle & Cairns, Australia. Inbound exchanges range from Devon and Derbyshire, United Kingdom; a national United States exchange and Montana, United States. About the region: Our city is located in the northern area of Brazil, the Amazon Region in the Equator Zone. As a medium size Brazilian city, it has 1.200.000 inhabitants. Belém is the most important city and also is the main port of entry through the Amazon River. As a border river city, we can reach the entire region by road or by river. Our climate is very hot with an average of 32 degrees Celsius and is also very wet with 80 % humidity throughout the year. We have two different seasons in the year. January to June is the wet season. Rains fall all day. July to December is the dry season. Portuguese founded Belém in 1616. This cultural history can be seen preserved in their churches and some streets, which shapes a good part of original urban design | |
